In the old hong kong drama, these flying device is able to hover in the air with a chain link to the assassin. With the assassin command they can track down the enemy no matter how skill the martial art the opponent is. Kind of ultimate killing machine in old imperial China.
Of course the technology is not some advance in the old days of China.
